Base Inn Uguisudani

Pros: The host is the nicest person on Earth! We had a great time. It is a clean and well-organised place.

Great budget stay

Pros: We stayed here for 5 days and we were lucky to get the corner beds so we got our own little private corner 😁 The host Mizu san was extremely friendly and kind. Making us feel welcome and explaining to us all the rules patiently. Beds are comfortable. Shower+ Shampoo and bodywash+ (no conditioner so bring your own) Hair dryer+ Uguisudani train station is like 5 mins walk away but you can only take JR trains from there so if you're getting the Tokyo Subway Pass, I suggest staying at a hostel close to stations that have those lines. There is no curfew of any kind so go and come at your convenience just make sure to be quiet as there are a lot of other backpackers too. Overall a great stay.

Beyond expectation. Clean, comfortable place and a warm friendly host

Pros: Mizu san, the host, was super friendly and helpful. He speaks good English. He received me warmly and introduced the house rules very clearly upon my checkin in the evening. The place was is clean, and well taken care of. It seems the other guests were solo travelers so every one was cooperative to follow the rules and stayed quiet and considerate to use the space. The mattress and duvet is amazingly comfortable. Ventilation was good. They even provided towels and extra blankets if need. It is the best shared accommodation of this price level I have ever stayed so far! Last but not least, a wonderful Japanese onsen was on the same street. I highly recommend this place!

Pros: Great place for a few days on tokyo. Next to major transportation line (metro and link to narita). As well as within walking distance to other attractions.

Lovely

Pros: Mizu-san was a fantastic host and was a lovely start and end to every day, keen to know what we were up too and loved looking through photos of the day. The hostel was apt with showers and toilets for all, it was old but clean enough and quiet despite living close quarters with others! Excellent location for travelling on the train system all over Tokyo yet being in a quiet and nice part of the city with walking distance to the more cultural areas!

Cons: The mattress was very sunken and flat in the middle because it had been slept on so often so I reccomend replacing these more often!

Pros: I had a wonderful stay here. Hosted by Mizu, he is awesome. Uguisudani station is served by the Yamanote line so it's convenient to get around Tokyo. You have a microwave and fridge to store and warm up food.

Cons: The hostel is moldy in places and it need's a little care

Wonderful host, fantastic location.

Pros: Fantastic location to access Tokyo tourist spots. Mizu is an absolutely great host, striking up conversation often and keeping an upbeat vibe. He was very strict about keeping it quiet between 10pm and 8am which we appreciated. He gave us bigger beds for storing out luggage as we were staying a bit longer (7nights). Thanks Mizu!

Cons: There wasn't much space, but we understood that it was very good value for money when we booked. You had to be quiet in the room at all times which was tricky when in a couple and needing to talk by the beds.

The best of the Ueno neighbourhood

Pros: The location was good, close to Uguisudani Station. Quiet neighbourhood with many amenities. The hostel had everything we needed for a 3- or 4-day stay. Mizu-san is a great host, very friendly and gave me all the information I needed. If I have the opportunity to return to Tokyo, I will stay here again!

Pros: The location was good. A small, compact space with good etiquettes instructed by Mizu san. Clean washrooms and kitchen

Cons: There was one restroom for men and women each, and one common restroom. Total three for around 20+ members. I was not affected directly but a thing to consider.

Pros: Welcome friendly place. Very good value in Tokyo. Very close to Yamamote line
