illi Sun Shimokitazawa

Great little apartment in a quirky neighbourhood.

Pros: This is a great apartment for families in a quirky area of Tokyo. Was great for us for a 2 night stay visiting with only backpacks (sent our larger luggage to the airport direct from ski resort!). Had everything we needed - toothbrushes even! Only a very short walk to the train station, plenty of gorgeous ‘op shops’ and gift shops around the area too. Room size was great. The owners have installed a curtain to block all of the bright lights on the display/fire panel which was great. The room can fit 6 people. The heating is great in the main room. Lots of great inclusions at the property too - washing machine, microwave, snacks, tea, coffee.

Cons: The blinds to outside do not block the morning sun which would be an issue if you are travelling with kids and want them to sleep in! The bathroom and toilet are cold (we visited in January!)

Had an excellent stay at Illi Sun – highly recommended!

Pros: The location was excellent and it was a very cosy apartment to come back to after enjoying the hustle-bustle of Tokyo.

Cons: It would have been nice to have a television.

Excellent accommodation would stay again.

Pros: The location was excellent and made exploring the area easy. The beds were very comfortable and the size of the apartment was huge, exceeded our expectations.

Cons: If I had to pick something, the shower could have been better.

Pros: The appartment has a cool design, in the middle of this vibrant neighbourhood, super comfortable.

Clean, comfrtable, great location.

Pros: Think hotel with no staff, but everything worked perfectly. It was clean, comfortable and a great locations. Restaurants, shopping and train station within a 2 min walk.

Cons: There was nothing, met expectations.

Great location and comfy beds, but a few minor issues.

Pros: Perfect spot – everything’s close by: shops, restaurants, supermarket, and the station all within walking distance. Mattresses were actually really decent too – comfortable and good quality. Would stay again.

Cons: A couple of small things – there was a bit of a smell coming from the shower, and the fridge door didn’t close properly on its own, so you had to push it shut each time. The place also felt a bit more dated than it looked in the photos.

Pros: This is a spacious loft style apartment, fully equipped and in a superb location for experiencing the buzzy cool vibe of the Shimokitazawa area of Tokyo. It was perfect for our family of four adults. The beds were very comfortable, and it was simple to find and to check in. The hosts were good at communicating with us. Lots of good cafes, bars and restaurants, lots going on. Recommended.

Pros: Really great space. Extremely large for Tokyo accommodation, so we could really stretch out. I loved the little art touches around the accommodation. The location was also great, so close to the station and lots of excellent food options around, perfect base for wandering shimo-kitazawa.

Cons: The blinds are see- through. We found it difficult to sleep past 7am since the sun was very bright every morning (we stayed in late May). Darker blinds/curtains are needed. Be aware that the shower room is on the small side.
