Ryokan Asakusa Shigetsu

Situated in the Asakusa area, Ryokan Asakusa Shigetsu has a history of 70 years. The accommodation boasts a view of the Tokyo Skytree from its Hinoki wood bath. There is a bath for each gender on site and both the female and male baths offer a view of Senso-ji Temple’s Five-storied Pagoda. Ryokan Asakusa Shigetsu is situated a 5-minute walk from Asakusa Subway Station, near Nakamise-dori Street and Senso-ji Temple. Asakusa Subway Station provides direct access to Ueno, Shibuya and Ginza areas, and also to the Narita and Haneda international airports. Japanese-style rooms and Western single rooms are available. Each guest room comes equipped with air conditioning, a satellite TV, a refrigerator and an en suite bathroom. Hairdryers, yukata robes, tea sets and mineral water are provided. The street in front of the hotel is closed to general vehicles during the day and is located in a quiet area. Due to a seven-story building is scheduled for construction north of the hotel, you will not be able to enjoy the view of Sensoji Temple and the five-story pagoda that has been available from some of the north-facing guest rooms for the past 30 years since the hotel was built until autumn 2026. However, Sensoji Temple and the five-story pagoda are only a five-minute walk away.

A wonderful ryokan in the heart of Asakusa

Pros: The location at the heart of Asakusa is perfect. Close to all the markets, Senso-ji temple and plenty of food and shopping. Only a 5 minute walk from Asakusa station which is very well connected, so easy to get around Tokyo. The staff were all really lovely and professional, and the room was beautiful; we lucked out and had a perfect view of the 5 tier pagoda on the Senso-ji grounds from our window. Senso-ji and the market get so incredibly busy during the day, that being nearby to experience it in the early morning and evening is a huge plus. The street that the ryokan is on is tucked away enough that despite it's proximity to such a busy area, it's not noisy at all from inside the building. Thank you to the staff who made our stay so enjoyable, and especially to the wonderful lady at reception who organised our luggage to be forwarded upon our checking out while she was having a very busy morning. ありがとうございます!

Perfect retreat in a busy area!

Pros: The bath was perfect! I could have sat in it for so long. The room was everything we needed, and the view from the rooftop garden was excellent as the sun came up!

Pros: Everything! The location is A+ but the staff are lovely and helpful, the facilities are excellent and having an onsen available makes it a comfortable experience.

Cons: That there was no way to get back into the hotel after curfew. A small gripe overall.

Highly recommended to return if you wish a different taste of Japan Tokyo, outside of crowded Shibuya and Shinjuku

Pros: It’s cosy and pleasant place to chill. Asakusa is less crowded and v conducive for a short stay in Tokyo.

Cons: Nothing, except not having the option for breakfast within the hotel. Have to eat out in the morning.
